Privacy Policy
Effective October 14, 2026
Summary
Boxtype converts text to Discord emoji on your device. The text you type is never sent to us. We use anonymous usage analytics to improve the app, and the app and website show ads from Google. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, analytics and personalised ads only run with your consent.
Data that stays on your device
Your settings, recent conversions and favorites are saved in your device or browser storage so they are there next time. They are never uploaded. Clear them in Settings → History, by clearing site data in your browser, or by uninstalling the app. GIFs and images you create are made on your device and are never uploaded to us.
If you add a Discord channel in Settings → Discord Channels, its webhook URL is saved only on your device. When you post to it, your device sends the message or GIF straight to Discord; it does not pass through Boxtype. Discord handles it under its own privacy policy. Remove the channel in Settings to delete the URL.
Your account (optional)
You can use Boxtype without an account. If you sign in, which is needed only for Boxtype Pro, we keep your email address, the sign-in method you chose (Google, Discord or an emailed link) and the ID that provider gives us, so the same Pro access works on the web and on Android. If you save a style in the GIF or emoji maker, its name and settings (effects, colours and sizes, never your words or photos) are stored with your account. Accounts are stored with Supabase. We never see your Google or Discord password, and we do not read your Discord messages or servers.
Delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes it, its sign-in details and any saved styles right away.
Purchases (Boxtype Pro)
Boxtype Pro is a one-time purchase. On Android it is paid through Google Play; on the web it is paid through Stripe. We use RevenueCat to record which accounts own Pro, so it works on every device you sign in on. RevenueCat receives your account ID and the purchase details (product, price, date and store receipt). Card and payment details go to Google or Stripe, never to us or RevenueCat.
Analytics (PostHog)
We use PostHog, hosted in the United States, to understand how Boxtype is used. It records events such as screens viewed, the emoji style and separator chosen, and whether you copied or shared a result, including the length of the input and output but never the text itself. It also records basic technical details: app version, operating system, device type, language, and app open/close events.
Events are linked to a random identifier stored on your device, not to your name, email or Discord account. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland analytics stay off unless you consent.
Advertising (Google AdMob and AdSense)
The Android app shows ads from Google AdMob and the website shows ads from Google AdSense. Google may collect information such as your device advertising ID, IP address, cookies and interactions with ads to serve, personalise and measure ads and to prevent fraud. How Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services.
You can turn off personalised ads in Google's ad settings, and on Android reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
Consent
If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, Google’s consent message asks for your choices before personalised ads or analytics are used. You can change them at any time from Settings → Privacy Options in the app, or the privacy and cookie settings link that Google shows on the website.
Sharing and sale
We do not sell your personal information. Data is shared only with the providers above, PostHog, Google, Supabase, RevenueCat and Stripe, so they can provide analytics, ads, accounts and purchases. Data is encrypted in transit.
Retention
Analytics events are kept for up to one year and then deleted. Accounts are kept until you delete them. Purchase records are kept as long as the law requires for tax and accounting. Google keeps advertising data according to its own policies. Data on your device stays until you clear it.
Children
Boxtype is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights and contact
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete data about you, or to object to its use. To make a request or ask a question, email privacy@boxtype.net.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change. This policy applies to the Boxtype Android app and www.boxtype.net. Boxtype is not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord Inc.
