On your phone, tap Share GIF and pick Discord. On a computer, the GIF downloads: drag it into a Discord channel or click the + next to the message box. Free accounts can upload files up to 20 MB, so even large GIFs fit.
GIFs are made entirely on your device and never uploaded to Boxtype. Each one has a small boxtype.net mark in the corner. Change this in
Settings.
About the Animated Text GIF Maker
The GIF maker turns a word or short phrase into a looping animated GIF you can post in any Discord channel, use as a reaction image, or set as an animated avatar or banner if your account supports it. You can animate emoji letters, or real lettering in fonts such as Bebas Neue, Bungee, Pixel, Pacifico, Lobster and Creepster.
The GIF is drawn and encoded on your device. Nothing you type or upload is sent to Boxtype, and you can make as many GIFs as you like.
How to use it
1
Type a short text
One to three words works best. Short text stays large and readable when Discord shrinks the GIF in chat.
2
Choose letters and an effect
Pick emoji letters or a text font, then an effect such as wave, bounce, rainbow, typewriter, glitch or emoji rain. The preview updates as you change options, so you can compare effects quickly.
3
Style it
Add an entrance, a background (solid, gradient, animated, transparent or your own photo), and for text letters an outline or shadow so the words stay readable on any background.
4
Pick a size and make the GIF
Choose a size for where the GIF will live: a chat message, an avatar, a profile banner, a server banner or a welcome card. Then tap Make GIF and share or download it.
Choosing the right size
Discord crops avatars to a circle and banners to a wide strip, so a GIF made for chat may lose its edges when you use it elsewhere. The size presets match Discord's shapes, and the Avatar preset shows a circle guide so you can keep the text inside the visible area. The file size is shown after the GIF is made; if it is larger than you need, choose a smaller size or a shorter length.
Making text readable when it is small
Discord shows GIFs much smaller than the preview, especially on phones. Bold fonts such as Bebas Neue and Bungee hold up best. Add an outline when the background is busy, use a calm effect like wave or bounce for anything people will see often, and save glitch and rainbow for one-off celebrations.
Posting the GIF in Discord
On a phone, tap Share GIF and pick Discord, or use Send to Discord on Android to go straight to Discord's share screen. On a computer the GIF downloads; drag it into a channel or click the plus button next to the message box. Server owners can also save a channel webhook in Settings and post the GIF to that channel directly.
Share links and saved styles
Share design link copies a link that opens the GIF maker with your exact settings, so a friend can make the same style with their own words. With Boxtype Pro you can also save styles to your account and reuse them on the web and in the app.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my GIF look smaller in Discord?
Discord scales images down to fit the chat. Use fewer words and a bold font, or pick a larger size preset, so the letters stay readable.
Can I use the GIF as my Discord avatar or banner?
Animated avatars and profile banners are Discord Nitro features. Without Nitro, Discord shows the first frame as a still image. Server banners need the server to have enough boosts.
Does it work with transparent backgrounds?
Yes. Choose the Transparent background. GIF transparency has hard edges, so a thin outline around the letters looks cleaner on both dark and light themes.
What is the small mark in the corner?
Free GIFs can carry a small boxtype.net mark. Boxtype Pro removes it.
