Adding them to your server
1. Unzip the pack if you exported several. 2. In Discord, open Server Settings → Emoji (or Stickers) and choose Upload. 3. Select the files; Discord uses the file name as the emoji name.
You need the Manage Expressions permission. Servers start with 50 still and 50 animated emoji slots and get more as they level up with boosts, so a full A–Z set fits in any server.
To spell a word in reactions, react with :bt_h:, :bt_e:, :bt_l:, :bt_l2:, :bt_o: — each repeat is its own emoji, so Discord counts them separately.
About the Server Emoji & Sticker Maker
Custom emoji give a server its own voice, but making 26 matching letter emoji by hand takes an afternoon in an image editor. The Server Emoji Maker builds a whole set at once: an A–Z alphabet, numbers, or a single word, as static or animated emoji or stickers, sized and compressed for Discord's upload limits.
With Boxtype Pro you can also turn any picture into an emoji: crop it, choose a shape, add a border and an animation. Images are processed on your device and are never uploaded to Boxtype.
How to use it
1
Choose what to make
A–Z makes the full alphabet, 0–9 makes the numbers, A word makes one tile per letter of a word (repeated letters get a different color, so you can spell it in reactions), and From an image, a Pro option, turns a photo or drawing into an emoji.
2
Pick the look
Choose a tile style, colors or a gradient, a font and an optional animation. Tap a tile in the preview to see it at full size.
3
Choose emoji or sticker
Emoji are 128×128 and must stay under 256 KB. Stickers are 320×320 and must stay under 512 KB. The maker checks each file and lowers frames and colors when an animation would be too big.
4
Export and upload
Export all (.zip) saves a pack with every tile named for Discord, such as bt_a.gif; you can change the bt prefix to your server's name. Unzip it, then upload the files in Server Settings → Emoji or Stickers.
Why animated stickers are exported as APNG
Discord accepts animated stickers as APNG, an animated PNG, rather than GIF. The maker exports animated stickers in that format automatically, so Discord accepts them without a conversion step. Animated emoji are exported as GIF, which is what Discord expects for emoji.
Planning around emoji slots
Every server has a limited number of emoji slots, with separate pools for static and animated emoji, and boosting the server adds more. A full alphabet uses 26 slots, so on a smaller server consider animating only a few word emoji and keeping the letters static. A consistent prefix, like :bt_a: through :bt_z:, makes them easy for members to remember.
Making image emoji that read well
Emoji appear tiny in chat, so crop tightly around the subject and use a simple background. The circle shape suits faces and avatars, and a thin border keeps light images from disappearing on Discord's light theme. Preview the tile at small size before exporting.
Who can upload
Uploading emoji and stickers needs the Manage Expressions permission, or being the server owner. Members can use static server emoji in that server for free; using animated emoji, or using a server's emoji in other servers, is a Discord Nitro perk.
Frequently asked questions
Why was my emoji rejected by Discord?
The usual reasons are a file over 256 KB, or a name with characters Discord doesn't allow. Files from the maker are sized to fit and named with letters, numbers and underscores.
Can I add just a few letters?
Yes. Unzip the pack and upload only the files you want. Keep your settings so you can make matching letters later.
Are stickers available on every server?
Every server gets some sticker slots, and boosting adds more. Check Server Settings → Stickers to see how many are free.
Do I own the emoji I make?
Yes. The emoji and stickers you make are yours to use. If you use someone else's picture, make sure you have permission to use it.
